The City of East Sarajevo is the administrative, university, economic, cultural and sports center of the eastern part of the Republic of Srpska.
It is the largest city in the Republic of Srpska in terms of area, while it is in fifth place in terms of population. It is the only city in this entity that includes several municipalities, namely: East Ilidža, East Novo Sarajevo, Pale, East Stari Grad, Sokolac and Trnovo.
The Administration of the City of East Sarajevo (City Administration of East Sarajevo) is located in the municipality of East Novo Sarajevo.
The total area of the city of East Sarajevo is 1425.77 km2. The city has about 61,000 inhabitants.
