A long story, full of snow-covered forests, children's joys, and warm homes—this is the story of Jahorina. The long tradition of skiing and organized competitions on this mountain began back in 1923 when the first skis were brought to Jahorina. The beginning of organized skiing dates back to 1933. The pinnacle of everything related to skiing and winter sports on Jahorina was the XIV Winter Olympic Games, held in 1984.
The Jahorina Olympic Center boasts a total of 24 ski trails, about 50 km in length, connected into a single unit with 16 vertical transport installations, capable of accommodating a total capacity of 28,800 skiers per hour. In addition to the 47 km of ideally prepared alpine ski trails, built to the highest world standards, Jahorina also offers 10 km of Nordic ski trails in Dvorište.
With its highest peak, Ogorjelica, located at 1,916 meters above sea level, Jahorina is part of the Dinaric mountain range that stretches in a northwest-southeast direction, forming a natural border between the Adriatic Sea and the continental hinterland. Due to this position, the warm Mediterranean air collides with cold continental air masses, creating ideal conditions for significant snowfall. As a result, Jahorina enjoys over 145 days of snow cover on average each year.
During the summer, Jahorina has a very favorable climate, with beautiful spring and summer months, when the mountain is covered with green grass, medicinal herbs, and berries. This climate provides excellent conditions for athletes' preparation, guests suffering from respiratory diseases, and all others who want to enjoy the untouched beauty of nature and the intoxicating scent of the forest and its fruits.
Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, is the nearest major city, and Jahorina can be reached from its international airport in two ways: through East Sarajevo (a 31 km road) or through Pale (a 37 km road). The distance from Jahorina to other major cities includes 210 km from Banja Luka, 540 km from Ljubljana, 260 km from Podgorica, 400 km from Zagreb, and 320 km from Belgrade.
Jahorina offers a wide range of accommodation options, both hotel and private, allowing nearly a quarter of a million visitors during the season to find lodging that suits their tastes.
Today, professional skiers choose Jahorina as an ideal destination for training and preparation. With 11 homologated ski trails, Jahorina is well-prepared for hosting world-class competitions. It is the only mountain in the world where the ski trails are named after the famous tennis player Novak Đoković. Jahorina is also unique in having 5 km of ski trails prepared for night skiing.
While experienced skiers choose the black slopes and enjoy the adrenaline provided by the mountain, beginners have three modern ski slopes, and the youngest skiers can learn in two ski kindergartens equipped with a conveyor belt, tubing trail, and various entertainment facilities. These facilities are ideal for children and beginners, allowing them to take their first ski steps and have endless fun in the snow. With professional licensed ski and snowboard instructors, skiing and snowboarding are sure to become some of your favorite sports.
Jahorina is not only a ski center known for good fun and excellent entertainment but also for its warm hospitality, exceptional gastronomy, and wellness offerings. Visitors often leave Jahorina full of impressions and almost always enchanted by everything it has to offer, returning with joy and anticipation.
During the summer, Jahorina has a well-developed tourist season. Some of the activities available include a mountain bob, walking to the peak and picking forest fruits and herbs, panoramic six-seater rides, four-wheeler rides, tower and loopster adventures, skydiving, ziplining, tubing, hiking tours on the "Path of Love" and the "Path of Health," and paragliding.
